DEPARTMENTS OF APPLIED SCIENCES AND HUMANITIES
Programme Offered:
Four Year B.Tech. Degree Course in Mechanical Engineering
Strives to train students in Engineering Sciences and in the application of these methods to conceive, organize and carry out the design of engineering systems. The department's professional programmes includes a deeper study of engineering sciences to which the students are introduced at the curriculum level, experimental solutions of the physical problems and techniques and methods of design of systems relevant to the contemporary world.
The department of Mechanical Engineering is well equipped in the conventional areas of material testing with sophisticated equipments, production engineering, thermal engineering, mechanics etc. It has well equipped laboratories in fields of mechanics of machines, hydro and aero machinery, internal combustion engines, refrigeration and air conditioning, vibration and heat transfer etc.
The department is on the verge of collaboration with various industrial organizations under industry institution interaction scheme for their industrial problems as live problems for the student's project work. Overhead projectors models, charts, computerised simulated systems, LCD, working models of engines and machines, models and cut sections for engineering graphics are used for classroom teaching. In the undergraduate programmes the emphasis is on the development of the learning to learn skills, problem solving skills and other professional attributes by application and exposure of the concepts of real life problems of industry, institute and society.
The department has well devoted and qualified expert team of faculty, who are constantly engaged in carrying out various live projects for the students and also the department has sufficient infrastructure to support the same. Presently the department is installing the central air conditioning plant for the computer center of the institute of 80 TR capacity, where the students are also involved in various activities which help them in getting expose to industrial requirement and needs. Laboratory experience is considered to be a very important part of the Mechanical Engineering Programme. There are course oriented laboratories where the student does experimental work leading to a better understanding of physical situations.
