DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING

General Information about the Department

The department of Information Technology in JIET started its functioning in 2002 for Bachelor's
course in Information Technology with three computer laboratory facilities, and sanction strength of Sixty in
IT only.


The computing laboratories of the department are well equipped with high-end servers and are networked. The course covers many aspects of computing, including software issues such as operating systems, databases, programming, computer graphics and multimedia applications. Apart from the compulsory curriculum of the Kurukshetra University, the department offers elective papers in the areas of Image Processing, Artificial Intelligence, Linux etc. A practical application of the knowledge gained in the theory is considered to be very important in the department. Department has sate of art laboratories which includes Computer Graphics including Multimedia applications, Software and Computing, Web Engineering and Internet applications, Operating systems, System software Lab., Design and Analysis of Algorithms etc. to help students surpass in practical. The department of CSE has following facilities:

Software and Platforms:
Red Hat Linux, Oracle , Internet Developer Suite, IBM Rational Suite, Microsoft Visual Studio, MS Windows NT Workstation, Window XP, Office 2007, Window Vista, MS Small Business Server, Compilers and Assemblers etc.

Hardware:
All labs are equipped with latest Core 2-Duo Hyper threading Multimedia computer systems. Department has over 200 workstations.

Internet Facility & Connectivity:

Department is having round the clock internet facility with 4 Mbps lease line from SpeedNet Internet Services and a dedicated 2-8 Mbps line from BSNL Broadband Internet Services. Our network is installed with Intel Xeon Parallel Dual Processor 3.02 Server and Cisco Router. Also the department as well as whole campus is facilitating with Wi-Fi Internet connectivity. Wireless Internet Facility is also Provided to hostel students. Department has LAN on 2 Gbps Ethernet/TCP supporting Linux Main Server and Windows Server2003 through manageable switches.
